German Design Council / Rat für Formgebung
The German Design Council is an independent, internationally active institution that supports companies in communicating design competence effectively, whilst at the same time working towards improving the understanding of design among the general public. The main areas of its activity are focused on brand and design evaluation and strategic design consultancy, as well as design research and knowledge transfer.
The Council was set up as a foundation in 1953 by the Federation of German Industries and some leading companies, on the initiative of the German Bundestag, and organizes competitions, exhibitions, conferences, seminars and publications with the aim of promoting good design. The benefactors of the German Design Council currently include over 210 companies both in Germany and abroad, which together employ more than two million people.
